Due to his outstanding play in net for the Latvian National team and HC Lugano, Elvis Merzlikins was named the Latvian Hockey Player of the Year and it wasn't close.

He received 25 more first place votes and 95 more points than second place Zemgus Girgensons of the Buffalo Sabres.
Despite a Quarterfinals exit in the World Championship for the Latvian National Team, Elvis put up a 1.50 goals against average and a .940 save percentage in six games.
With HC Lugano, Elvis posted a 2.72 goals against average and .921 save percentage last season and has a 2.52 goals against average and .918 save percentage this season.
Elvis was drafted by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 3rd round of the 2014 NHL Entry-Level Draft.
