The Columbus Blue Jackets have re-signed left wing Markus Hannikainen to a one-year contract for the 2019-20 NHL season, club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today.
Hannikainen, 26, recorded four goals and three assists for seven points with two penalty minutes in 44 games with the Blue Jackets in 2018-19, setting single-season career highs in goals, points and games played. He posted points in a career-high three-straight contests from Nov. 26-Dec. 1 (2-1-3) and played in a career-high 34-straight games from Oct. 25-Jan. 8.

A native of Helsinki, Finland, Hannikainen has registered 8-7-15 and 14 penalty minutes in 91 career NHL games since making his league debut with the Blue Jackets in 2015-16. He also collected 26-34-60 and 42 penalty minutes in 115 career American Hockey League outings with the Lake Erie/Cleveland Monsters from 2015-18 and helped the Monsters capture the 2016 Calder Cup championship with 3-7-10 in 16 playoff games.
The 6-1, 200-pound winger was originally signed by Columbus as a free agent on April 20, 2015. He notched 22-31-53, 67 penalty minutes and was +26 in 117 career contests with JYP, HPK and Jokerit in Finland's top professional league (Liiga) from 2011-15.
