The top affiliate of the Blue Jackets heads into the Christmas holiday with lots of gifts to unwrap. The Monsters are 17-8-1-2, good for a tie for second in the AHL North Division, after making it all the way to the Eastern Conference Final a season ago.
Cleveland is scuffling a bit in December, though, posting a 3-4-1-1 in the month after a franchise-record 10-game win streak in November. The Monsters went 1-2 this past week at home, falling 3-2 to Utica on Wednesday, rallying to drub the Comets 6-1 on Thursday, and then losing the annual Teddy Bear Toss game Sunday vs. Rochester.
The Monsters go into the holiday with two of the top four scorers in the league in Trey Fix-Wolansky (second, 14-18-32) and Luca Del Bel Belluz (tied for third, 16-15-31), while leading defenseman Denton Mateychuk was called up to Columbus on Sunday.
Cleveland gets back to action Saturday with a home game vs. Grand Rapids.
