The Monsters rebranded as the Cleveland Pierogies over the weekend and brought the pierogi power, sweeping Wilkes-Barre/Scranton by scores of 7-1 and 3-0 at Rocket Arena. Roman Ahcan had a hat trick in the opener while defenseman Guillaume Richard scored in his AHL debut and Luca Del Bel Belluz (1-2-3) and Trey Fix-Wolansky (0-3-3) each had three points. Jet Greaves posted a shutout with 23 saves in Saturday's win, while Hunter McKown scored twice and Gavin Brindley had a goal and assist.
Fix-Wolansky has moved into a tie for 11th in the AHL in scoring with 57 points with a 6-4-10 line in his last eight games, while Del Bel Belluz has a 3-3-6 line in the last five games and McKown has 3-5-8 in the last eight. Greaves is 6-2-1 with a .959 save percentage in his last nine appearances.
With six games to go, Cleveland (33-22-5-6) is tied for fourth place in the AHL North Division with Toronto, one behind Syracuse for third and six ahead of Belleville. The top five teams in the division advance to the postseason, with fourth and fifth place battling in an opening-round series.
The Monsters host Grand Rapids on Wednesday and Toronto on Saturday before heading to Toronto for a Sunday game.
