The Blues Bookworms Program is a literary initiative to encourage students in grades K – 6th to spend more of their leisure time reading. The free program is available to students in the greater metropolitan St. Louis area and runs from October 1, 2024 to January 15, 2025.
Students will turn their reading minutes in to their teachers using a form provided by the Blues. Teachers will be able to log their students' minutes each month with a spreadsheet also provided by the Blues. On January 15, teachers will submit their students' minutes by emailing in the spreadsheet.
Each month students will have the opportunity to match a player's minutes. Any student that reads the same amount of minutes or more, that the designated player played in the previous month, will receive a video from that Blues player congratulating the students and encouraging them to continue reading.
Any student who reads over 1,000 minutes during the program will receive one ticket to a select game this season with a discounted option to purchase up to five additional tickets.
Any teacher that submits their students' minutes, will receive one ticket to a select game this season with a discounted option to purchase up to five additional tickets. Teachers will have two weeks to submit their students' minutes after January 15. No submissions will be accepted after January 30.
Additional prizes include:
- Louie classroom visits to randomly selected schools each month
- A bookmark for each student
- A poster for each classroom (also used to track students minutes)
