The design, which builds off a look Allen first debuted midway through last season, features a large Blue Note on the top that is surrounded almost entirely with snakeskin. Both sides of the mask proudly display a sketch of the Blues' trumpet logo from the mid-90s, and his No. 34, which is also covered in snake scales, is painted squarely on the chin.
The backplate has a much more personal touch, one that is significantly less threatening. The provincial flag of New Brunswick is there to remind him where he came from, while two paw prints in the top corner represented his dogs - Murph and Marvin - back home. "Bub" is a tribute to his late grandfather, while "LEA" and "RIA" are the initials of his daughters, Lennon Everly Allen and Reagan Iris Allen, respectively.
Allen's mask was designed by David Gunnarsson of Sweden, who has painted masks for more than two decades and whose clients include Henrik Lundqvist of the New York Rangers, Pekka Rinne of the Nashville Predators and Carey Price of the Montreal Canadiens.
