Blues look to build on win Monday vs. Ducks

ANAHEIM - After a offensive outburst saw the Blues gain a point in their chase for a playoff position on Saturday, another important game looms Monday as they wrap up a three-game road trip against the Anaheim Ducks.
The Blues got some help in the standings on Sunday: the Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Dallas Stars 3-1 and the New York Islanders beat the Calgary Flames, 5-2.
As a result, the Blues (77 points) didn't lose any ground in the standings and remain just three points out of a playoff spot in the Western Conference.

THE MATCHUP

BLUES The Blues certainly didn't look like a team struggling to score on Saturday.
Seven different players scored for St. Louis on Saturday in a 7-2 rout of the Los Angeles Kings - a win the Blues needed as they were chasing the Kings for the final Wild Card spot in the West at the time. Jaden Schwartz had a goal and two assists, while Alex Pietrangelo, Vladimir Tarasenko, Ivan Barbashev and Kyle Brodziak each had a goal and an assist for the Blues.
Jake Allen made 38 saves.
"It was going to come," Allen said of the offense. "It was nice to see, not just from my perspective, but even the forwards. It took a toll on them not scoring goals. We needed one of those games, I don't know when the last time would have been when we had a game like that… it was impressive to watch against a really good team who is playing really well. From the start of the game until the end, it was a job well done… guys should be proud of the way they played."
"What you hope now is that some guys can build some confidence off of that and carry a little bit of momentum into our next one," Blues Head Coach Mike Yeo said. "We know our next one is going to be a real tough challenge, but it's nice with an afternoon game; we have the rest of the night to enjoy this one."

DUCKS Ryan Getzlaf extended his point streak to five games (two goals, 10 assists) with a goal in the first period on Friday, but Devin Shore and Jamie Benn scored in the third to give the Stars a 2-1 win against the Ducks.
Ryan Miller made 35 saves for Anaheim, who lost their second consecutive game.
"They brought a pretty good push there (in the second period)," Ducks defenseman Brandon Montour told NHL.com. "I thought we stuck together. A lot of their chances were from the outside… [Miller] stood tall and we helped him out as much as we could."
HEAD-TO-HEAD The Blues have lost both meetings with the Anaheim Ducks this season, including a 3-1 defeat in the last matchup on Dec. 14 in St. Louis.
Prior to losing three straight to the Ducks, the Blues had earned points in the previous five meetings.
The Blues are 1-1-1 in their last three trips to Anaheim.

HOT VS. ANAHEIM

• Jaden Schwartz has four assists in his last five games against the Ducks.
  - Vladimir Tarasenko has seven points in his last nine games (four goals, three assists).
  - Patrik Berglund has five points in his last seven games (four goals, one assist).
  - Kyle Brodziak has two goals in his last two games.
  - Jake Allen is 5-3-0 with a 1.92 goals-against average, a .924 save-percentage and one shutout in nine career starts.

BLUE NOTES

• Allen has stopped 72 of the 75 shots he's faced over his last two games.
  - Three defensemen scored in Saturday's win in Los Angeles. For the Blues, that's the first time it's happened since April 1, 2016 at Boston when Robert Bortuzzo, Alex Pietrangelo and Kevin Shattenkirk scored in the same game.
  - Colton Parayko's goal on Saturday was the 100th point of his career.
