CHI@STL: Sanford scores second of game to break tie

ST. LOUIS --Zach Sanford scored twice in a four-goal third period to help the St. Louis Blues win their fifth straight, 6-5 against the Chicago Blackhawks at Enterprise Center on Tuesday.

Sanford had two goals and an assist, Robert Thomas had a goal and two assists, and Brayden Schenn and Ryan O'Reilly each had a goal and an assist for St. Louis (37-17-10), which leads the Dallas Stars by four points for first place in the Central Division. Jordan Binnington made 25 saves.
"I don't know the last time we had a game like that here," Sanford said. "I don't know that that's our style, but those ones are always fun to be part of."

Duncan Keith had a goal and an assist, Jonathan Toews had two assists, and Corey Crawford made 31 saves for the Blackhawks (27-28-8), who have lost 10 of 13 (3-8-2).
"Obviously a few different changes in the lead there and we had the lead, so back and forth all game," Keith said. "But as the games are, you'd like to come out on top and obviously it didn't happen. A lot of breakdowns defensively and that's the game."
Sanford's second of the game, a power-play goal at 13:35 off a loose puck in the slot, gave the Blues a 6-5 lead.
"That's a good rush by [Thomas] there and some good chances before that," Sanford said. "It's a bouncing puck and I've been trying to get to the net, and it was sitting right there for me and I was trying to put it on net, and it finds its way in."
O'Reilly and Sanford scored 16 seconds apart in the third period to give St. Louis a 4-3 lead. O'Reilly tied it 3-3 at 3:47, and Sanford made it 4-3 at 4:03. Matthew Highmore tied it 4-4 at 5:16.
"Obviously we got the lead there and that's when we've got to shut the door and make sure we're smart and disciplined there and not give up so much," O'Reilly said.

Brandon Saad scored on a power play at 8:16 to make it 5-4 Blackhawks. It was the first time this season Chicago has scored three power-play goals in a game.
"Yeah, I mean, that's a good thing for us, no question," Blackhawks coach Jeremy Colliton said. "We haven't been able to get it firing consistently. It seems like we're there. It can help you win games, especially on the road, it got us back into this one and gives us a chance to win in the third. We're being clean with the puck, we got a shooter's mentality, we've got a net-front."
Justin Faulk tied it 5-5 at 9:28.

Keith's goal, his 100th in the NHL, was the first given up by the Blues on home ice in 146:56. It was Keith's first goal in 40 games.
Patrick Kane's power-play goal at 1:13 of the second period gave the Blackhawks a 3-1 lead before Thomas made it 3-2 at 7:38.

They said it

"I think, obviously, you're not getting results, but we thought we were playing really hard. We're in a lot of games here as of late, especially the last Dallas game (a 2-1 loss Sunday). We take some positives from that, but at the end of the day we want to get the win." -- Blackhawks forward Matthew Highmore
"That actually happens quite a bit in the [Ontario Hockey League]. Crazy game. Obviously not our style of play. We have to tighten it up a little bit but happy we got the two points. A lot of run-and-gun, a lot of transition chances, and it's not our game, but we're happy we got the two points." -- Blues forward Robert Thomas
