Family of Lance Cpl. Schmitz to drop puck before Thursday's game

The family of Lance Cpl. Jared Schmitz will drop the ceremonial puck before the Salute to Military game against the Nashville Predators on Thursday night at 7 p.m. at Enterprise Center.
The puck drop - the first in St. Louis since the pandemic began in March 2020 - will consist of Jared's father, Mark, stepmother, Jaclyn, mother, Sue, St. Louis Blues captain Ryan O'Reilly and a member of the Nashville Predators.

Lance Cpl. Jared Schmitz, who lived in Wentzville, MO, was killed along with 12 other U.S. service members in a bombing at the Kabul airport in Afghanistan on Aug. 26.
Blues players will honor Schmitz with a helmet sticker for Thursday's game, in addition to donning special military warm-up jerseys, 13 of which will feature a name of a service member killed in action in Kabul. Those 13 jerseys will be presented to the families of the respective fallen service members after the game. The remaining military-themed warm-up jerseys will be raffled online at

The team will also hold a moment of silence, honor those who have served the country during the game and sell autographed military-themed pucks to benefit the Blues Warrior Hockey Club.
