Hutton sets franchise record with 48-save shutout

ST. LOUIS - Carter Hutton's 48-save shutout performance on Saturday against the Winnipeg Jets set a new franchise record for the most saves in a shutout by a Blues goaltender.
Hutton surpassed the previous team record, which was set on Nov. 25, 2008 when Chris Mason posted a 47-save shutout against the Nashville Predators.

Hutton's shutout was the ninth of his career and first of the season, helping the Blues to a 2-0 win against the division rival Winnipeg Jets.
"Tonight, I was kind of coming into the game with a little more nerves, a little more excitement, kind of mixed emotions," said Hutton, who returned from an injury to make his first start since Dec. 1 vs. Los Angeles. "I thought I settled in right away. First couple shots, I thought I was seeing it really well, tracking the puck off me and any rebounds. They put a lot of pucks to the net.

"I like to compete and battle," Hutton added. "I thought it kind of really played to my strength early on, and then I thought as the game went on, it was almost my puck-handling took over. I thought I handled the pucks. And then we did a good job in the third as we really didn't give up a whole lot."
Hutton's 48 saves as a career-high. He faced 21 shots from the Jets in the second period.
"He was really good," Blues Head Coach Mike Yeo said. "I thought our third period we tightened up a little bit, but obviously, as tight as we want to be, that team's going to find a way to get chances. They've got a lot of skill, a lot of firepower. But we gave up a little bit off the rush tonight, but every time we gave up something, (Hutton) was there."

According to Elias Sports Bureau, Hutton's 48-save performance was the most saves in a shutout by any NHL goaltender since Jan. 6, 2015, when Colorado's Semyon Varlamov stopped 54 shots in a 2-0 win against Chicago.
