Maxwell, 62, has spent the past 14 seasons with the New York Rangers, including the last 10 as director of professional scouting. During that time, the Rangers qualified for the postseason 10 times, including a trip to the Eastern Conference Final in 2022. In addition, the team acquired several key players, including forward Mika Zibanejad and defenseman Jacob Trouba.
Maxwell began his front office career with the Philadelphia Flyers in 1988. After three seasons in the Flyers' scouting department, the Edmonton, Alberta native moved on to the Hartford Whalers, where he spent four seasons in various capacities, including director of scouting, director of professional scouting and director of player personnel.
From there, Maxwell spent 10 seasons with the New York Islanders, including his final two as director of professional scouting.
Finally, he served a two-year stint as a scout with the Dallas Stars before joining the Rangers.
As a player, Maxwell enjoyed an 18-year professional career. Originally drafted by the Minnesota North Stars in the third round (No. 63 overall) of the 1979 NHL Draft, Maxwell appeared in 66 NHL regular-season games overall, including stints with Minnesota, Colorado (Rockies) and New Jersey. He was also a two-time Calder Cup champion in the AHL, winning with the Maine Mariners in 1984 and the Hershey Bears in 1988.
