The most likely outcome (73.3 percent chance) is that the Blues will hold their pre-lottery position and pick No. 10 overall in this summer's draft.
The top two picks in the 2023 NHL Draft are drawn via the lottery system, then the 14 remaining slots are awarded based on regular-season standings. If the Blues are not chosen with the first drawing, they have a 3.7 percent chance at landing the No. 2 overall pick.
The Anaheim Ducks, who finished with the League's worst record, have the best odds of landing the top drawing at 25.5 percent. They are followed by Columbus (13.5 percent), Chicago (11.5 percent) and San Jose (9.5 percent).
If any of the six lottery teams who finished with a better record than the Blues are drawn in the lottery, the Blues could slide down to pick No. 11 or 12. Because Draft Lottery rules only allow teams to move up a maximum of 10 spots, this could also result in the Blues picking No. 3 overall - albeit a very slim chance.
The likelihood that the Blues will draft at a given slot are as follows:
No. 1 pick - 3.5 percent
No. 2 pick-3.7 percent
No. 3 pick-0.1 percent
No. 10 pick - 73.3 percent
No. 11 pick - 18.4 percent
No. 12 pick- 0.9 percent
The Blues possess two additional first-round picks in this summer's NHL Draft, although those picks are not eligible for Draft Lottery selection and will be finalized as the Stanley Cup Playoffs continue. Currently, those picks project to be No. 25 and No. 27 overall.
The Draft Lottery drawings will be unveiled during a live broadcast on May 8 at 7 p.m. CT on ESPN.
The NHL Draft will take place from June 28-29 at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena.
