Canucks lead best-of-7 series, 2-0

"I thought we were a better team all night (5-on-5). We worked hard, we were physical, tons of good chances… It's adversity right now, we just have to fight through it and win the game."

That's what Blues Head Coach Craig Berube had to say after his club erased a two-goal deficit in the third period only to eventually lose Game 2 to the Vancouver Canucks in overtime on Friday.

For most of the game - and especially the third period - the Blues looked a lot like the unstoppable force they were in the 2019 postseason. They played their game, they had the Canucks on the ropes - and then Vancouver's Bo Horvat got a break and made it count again by scoring his fourth - and most important - goal in the series.

"We showed good resilience, sticking with it," Ryan O'Reilly said. "We went into OT confident that we were going to make it happen and one bad little break (decided it). That's the way it is, sometimes that happens, sometimes we're on the other end of it. We're putting this behind us, focusing on the next game. We did a lot of good things (Friday)."

Gunnarsson optimistic about Game 3

"It was probably the best game we've played since we've been in Edmonton," captain Alex Pietrangelo added. "Sometimes you just have to keep playing and eventually things turn. Is it frustrating? Yeah, sure. But we don't really care what people think outside of our locker room. We had a lot of noise last year, too, and look what we did."

Sunday's Game 3 isn't a must-win for the Blues, but it feels pretty close. The team held an optional practice on Saturday but is planning to have a morning skate on Sunday before the game.

The Blues and Canucks will meet for Games 3 and 4 on back-to-back days. Berube did not reveal any lineup changes Saturday and wasn't ready to say whether Jordan Binnington or Jake Allen would be between the pipes.

NOTEWORTHY QUOTE

David Perron, on how the narrative might say it's just not the Blues' year:

"It wasn't our year last year up until January. We found a way to turn it around, and it doesn't matter what people say on the outside. What matters is how we play and what we believe in this room, and the way we played in (Game 2) was exactly the way need to play for the most part, and we gave them a couple breaks. If we put 40 shots on net and the pressure we did (on Friday), I'm confident we can win the next couple games."
