Schwartz was named the NHL's Third Star for the Month of October on Wednesday after opening the season with eight goals and nine assists (17 points) through 13 games. The Blues forward ranks third in the League in scoring, trailing only Tampa Bay's Steven Stamkos and Nikita Kucherov in points.
"He deserves (the honor), no question," said Blues Head Coach Mike Yeo. "I'm very pleased for him. The individual awards are a nice tip of the hat to that player, but it's also a compliment to the guys he's playing with and the group. But the way he's been going, he deserves the recognition. It started for me last year. He was a dominant force night in and night out, and I think he's carried that on in this season, too."
Five of the Blues' 13 games this season have been multi-point efforts for Schwartz, who has 52 multiple-point games in his career. He netted his third career hat trick on Oct. 18 in a 5-2 victory against the Chicago Blackhawks and has been a major contributor in the Blues' 10-2-1 start, which ranks first in the Western Conference.
In addition, Schwartz put together the second-best October ever by a Blue with 17 points, trailing only Brett Hull, who scored 19 points in October during the 1990-91 season.
The Blues are 211-97-23 with Schwartz in the lineup during his career, and 122-36-6 when he records at least one point.
