Niemi was selected the first star of the game twice (on February 3 versus Anaheim and February 28 versus the New York Islanders) and the third star on two occasions (on February 22 against the New York Rangers and February 24 versus Tampa Bay). He finished ahead of teammates Brendan Gallagher, Charles Hudon and Artturi Lehkonen.
The Finnish goaltender had a 3-1-1 record in six games in February, with a 2.31 goals-against average. He stopped 163 of the 175 shots he faced for a .931 save percentage.
Niemi will be presented with the Molson Cup during a ceremony prior to the Tuesday, March 13 game against the Dallas Stars at the Bell Centre.
