MONTREAL -- Montreal Canadiens general manager, Kent Hughes, announced on Monday that forward Tyler Toffoli has been traded to the Calgary Flames in exchange for forwards Emil Heineman, Tyler Pitlick, a first-round pick in 2022 and a fifth-round pick in 2023.

The Flames' first-round pick comes with the following option: i) If the pick is not in the top 10, Calgary trades their first-round pick in 2022; and ii) If the pick is in the top 10, Calgary will have the option to instead trade their first-round pick in 2023 in addition to a fourth-round pick in 2024.
Heineman, a 6-foot-1, 185 lbs left-winger was drafted in the second round (43rd overall) by the Florida Panthers at the 2020 NHL Draft. He played 36 games with Leksands IF in the SHL in 2021-22, scoring 11 goals and five assists, along with serving 20 penalty minutes. In 90 career games in the SHL, Heineman registered 31 points (18 goals, 13 assists) and served 38 penalty minutes.
Pitlick, a Minneapolis, MN native, skated in 25 games with the Flames this season in the NHL, collecting two assists. The former second-round pick (31st overall) of the Edmonton Oilers in 2010 played 311 career NHL games with Edmonton, the Dallas Stars, the Philadelphia Flyers, the Arizona Coyotes and the Flames, posting a 47-39-86 record in addition of serving 80 penalty minutes.
Toffoli joined the Canadiens as a free agent, signing a four-year contract on October 12, 2020.
