MONTREAL - The 2018-19 season has inched just a bit closer to reality, as the NHL and the Canadiens unveiled their schedules for the upcoming campaign on Thursday.

For the 18th time since 1917, the Habs will be opening up their season against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday, October 3. That tilt is the first of a two-game road trip to kick things off for the Canadiens, who will then head to Pittsburgh to face the Penguins on October 6.

As announced on Wednesday, Montreal's home opener takes place on Thursday, October 11, when the Los Angeles Kings come to town. Pre-game ceremonies begin at 7:00 p.m. with puck drop slated for 7:30.
The Habs have three dances with the Stanley Cup Champion Washington Capitals next season - including two on home ice - with the first one taking place on November 1. The Canadiens will also host the Caps in a preseason tilt on September 20 in Quebec City. Tickets for that match up are already available

The Cup finalist Vegas Golden Knights, entering their sophomore season, will visit the Bell Centre on November 10, while the Habs will be in Sin City in mid-December.
In fact, the Canadiens' trip to Nevada will be in the midst of two three-game road swings on either side of Christmas, with stops in Colorado and Arizona before the break, and trips to Florida, Tampa, and Dallas to close out 2018.
Moving into the New Year, the League's biggest stars will descend on San Jose for the 2019 All-Star Weekend on January 25-26, marking the return of the event to the Bay Area for the first time since 1997.
The following weekend is the Canadiens' annual Family Weekend, with a pair of matinee home games against the New Jersey Devils and Edmonton Oilers on the agenda.
The archrival Maple Leafs will bookend the Canadiens' season on April 6, this time on Montreal's turf as part of the Habs' annual Fan Appreciation Night festivities.
