MONTREAL - Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin announced today that the team has agreed to terms on a one-year contract extension with defenseman Victor Mete. The deal has an average annual value of $735,000 for the Canadiens.

Mete, 22, registered 11 points in 51 games with the Canadiens last season (four goals, 11 assists). The 5'09'' and 183 lbs left-handed defenseman also served 20 penalty minutes as well as posting a +5 differential. He suited up for all 10 playoff contests played by Montreal in the Toronto Hub-city, amassing two helpers.
In three seasons in the NHL, all played in a Canadiens uniform, Mete has tallied four goals, 27 assists and a +27 differential in 171 regular season games. Prior to joining the professional ranks, the Woodbridge, ON native completed a three-season Junior stint with the London Knights, a team with which Mete has enjoyed both individual and collective success. In 176 games with the Knights, he recorded 105 points (30 goals, 75 assists), averaging 0.6 points per game, in addition to posting an impressive +108 differential. Mete also performed well in the playoffs in the Junior ranks, including by helping London hoist the J. Ross Robertson Cup at the end of the 2015-16 season, awarded to the OHL champion. In 42 career OHL playoff games, Mete recorded six goals and 20 assists for 26 points. In the 2016 Memorial Cup tournament, he scored one goal and posted a +5 differential in four games, en route to winning the prestigious trophy.
Mete was a fourth-round pick, 100th overall by the Canadiens at the 2016 NHL Draft. Internationally, Mete also won gold at the IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship in 2017-18. He finished the tournament with three assists and a +11 rating in six games.
