Get to know the new interim Habs head coach with a few more fast facts.
9 - Ducharme enjoyed a fruitful four-year playing career as a center with the University of Vermont Catamounts in the NCAA, where he played with future NHLers Martin St. Louis and Tim Thomas. In 130 career games with Vermont, Ducharme put up 54 goals and 149 points. He ranks seventh all-time on the Catamounts in assists (95) and ninth in points. He was Vermont's leading point-getter in 1992-93.
10 - Ducharme spent 10 seasons coaching in the QMJHL ranks including seven with the Halifax Mooseheads, where he coached the likes of Jonathan Drouin and Nathan MacKinnon. A head coach in the Q for seven seasons, Ducharme led his teams to the playoffs in all but one of those campaigns.
3 - Ducharme has coaching experience in Montreal prior to joining the Habs. Alongside Joel Bouchard, he served on Pascal Vincent's coaching staff with the QMJHL's Montreal Junior for three seasons from 2008-09 to 2010-11. Jake Allen and Xavier Ouellet both played for the Junior during Ducharme's tenure.
58 - In 2012-13, Ducharme coached the Mooseheads to a CHL-leading 58-6-3-1 record. Halifax would only lose one playoff game en route to its first-ever President Cup championship. Ducharme also led the club to a Memorial Cup title that season, and earned the Ron Lapointe Award as QMJHL coach of the year in 2013.
255-158-37 - In seven seasons as a bench boss in the QMJHL with the Mooseheads and Drummondville Voltigeurs, Ducharme compiled a 255-158-37 record. On top of winning the QMJHL championship in 2013, Ducharme also led the Mooseheads to the third round of the playoffs on two more occasions (2012 and 2014).
11 - Ducharme boasts a 49-29 record in the QMJHL postseason on his resume. His 49 playoff wins put him in a tie for 11th all-time in the Q.
2 - Ducharme owns a pair of medals as a head coach on the international stage. He captured silver at the 2017 World Junior Championship in Montreal and Toronto before leading Victor Mete and Team Canada to gold the following year in Buffalo. He was also behind the bench as an assistant coach at the 2013 Hlinka Gretzky Cup and 2016 World Junior Championship.
