Five prospects to watch at World Juniors

MONTREAL -- Five Canadiens prospects are participating in the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship, which gets underway with preliminary-round play on Tuesday.

The event will be held at Rogers Place in Edmonton and is scheduled to conclude on August 20.
Here's a look at the hopefuls you need to watch…
Joshua Roy and Riley Kidney - Canada
Winger Joshua Roy is garnering plenty of attention heading into the tournament, and with good reason after leading the QMJHL in regular-season scoring with 119 points (51 goals, 68 assists) in 66 games.
That earned him the Jean Béliveau Trophy, which has previously been secured by the likes of Alexis Lafrenière, Anthony Mantha, Yanni Gourde, Sean Couturier and Sidney Crosby.
The 19-year-old Saint-Georges-de-Beauce, QC native was a force in the playoffs as well, helping the Sherbrooke Phoenix reach the President Cup semi-finals with 23 points (8 goals, 15 assists) in just 11 appearances.

A fifth-round pick (150th overall) in 2021, Roy's hardware haul this past season also included the Paul Dupont Trophy as the League's Personality of the Year for being an important ambassador for the QMJHL and for his positive impact in media circles.
Like Roy, center Riley Kidney enjoyed an outstanding QMJHL campaign and rightfully earned his spot with the Canadian contingent.
The 19-year-old Enfield, NS native registered 100 points (30 goals, 70 assists) in 66 regular-season games for the Acadie-Bathurst Titan.
His 70 helpers were a League-best alongside Josh Lawrence (Saint John) and Jordan Dumais (Halifax).

Kidney was by far his club's most productive player in the scoring department, finishing 23 points clear of second-ranked Bennett MacArthur.
A second-round pick (63rd overall) in 2021, Kidney is one of only seven players in the QMHL to reach the 100-point plateau last season.
Both Roy and Kidney are making their World Junior debuts.
Jan Mysak - Czechia
Center Jan Mysak was a difference-maker for the Hamilton Bulldogs in 2021-22.
The 20-year-old center recorded 64 points (34 goals, 30 assists) in 61 regular-season games, before adding another 11 points (4 goals, 7 assists) in 17 playoff outings to help the Bulldogs win the J. Ross Robertson Cup as OHL Champions.
That earned the Litvinov native and his teammates a spot in the Memorial Cup where his memorable overtime tally in the semi-finals gave Hamilton a shot to win it all against the host Saint John Sea Dogs.

Unfortunately, Mysak and company came up short in a 6-3 loss at TD Station.
The Bulldogs' assistant captain brings a wealth of World Junior experience to the Czechia lineup with full appearances in 2020 and 2021.
He also captained his countrymen last December prior to the cancellation of the tournament due to a series of positive COVID-19 tests.
Mysak, who will serve as captain again, was a second-round selection (48th overall) in the 2020 NHL Draft.
Oliver Kapanen and Petteri Nurmi - Finland
Center Oliver Kapanen played with several clubs last season, including KalPa (Liiga), IPK (Mestis) and Karpat (Liiga).
He also suited up for KalPa's U20 squad (U20 SM-sarja), amassing 15 points (7 goals, 8 assists) in 11 regular-season games, before adding 11 points (5 goals, 6 assists) in 10 playoff appearances.
The 19-year-old native of Timra, Sweden was a second-round selection (64th overall) in 2021.
Defenseman Petteri Nurmi, meanwhile, played 58 games with HPK (Liiga) last year.
The 20-year-old Helsinki native was a seventh-round selection (194th overall) in early July.
Both Kapanen and Nurmi are returning to the Finnish contingent after the tournament was cut short eight months ago.
