Allen was selected first star of the game once (on February 28 in San Jose), second star of the game once (on February 12 against Edmonton), as well as third star of the game on one occasion (on February 24 in Philadelphia). In five games in February, the 32-year-old netminder posted a 4-1-0 record, along with a 2.00 goals-against average. His .937 save percentage ranks third best in the NHL among goaltenders who have played at least five games during that span. Allen earned his first shutout of the season, on February 14 against Chicago.
Matheson was named first star once (February 11 against the Islanders), second star once (February 25 against Ottawa) and third star once (February 14 against Chicago). The 29-year-old blueliner led the team with eight points (three goals, five assists) in nine games in February. Matheson scored the overtime winner on February 11 against the Islanders. He also had a four-game point streak (February 18 to 25) during which he scored two goals and added three assists.
A ceremony honoring Allen and Matheson will take place ahead of Tuesday's game against the Carolina Hurricanes at the Bell Centre.
