Guhle-Canada-WJC

MONTREAL - Kaiden Guhle is headed to the World Junior Championship.

On Friday, Team Canada announced its 25-man roster for the 2021 edition of the tournament, slated for December 25-January 5 in Edmonton, AB, and the 18-year-old was one of eight defensemen to make the cut.

Guhle, the Canadiens' first-round pick (16th overall) in 2020, had joined 45 other players for a 26-day selection camp held in Red Deer, AB by Team Canada starting on November 16.
A native of 2021 WJC host city Edmonton, Guhle is coming off his second full season with the WHL's Prince Albert Raiders, where he put up 40 points (11G, 29A) and a plus-23 differential to go along with 56 penalty minutes in 64 games. The 6-foot-2, 186-pound rearguard won the WHL title with the Raiders in his rookie season in 2019. Guhle also previously captained Team Canada - Red at the 2019 U17 Hockey Challenge and was an alternate captain for Canada at the 2019 Hlinka Gretzky Cup.
Guhle is the first Canadiens prospect to officially be named to a World Juniors roster, but he likely won't be the last. Czech forward Jan Mysak will be traveling to Edmonton, although his country has not yet announced a final roster. Meanwhile, Cole Caufield is taking part in Team USA's camp in preparation for the tournament, with a roster announcement expected in the coming days.
