MONTREAL - Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin announced on Wednesday that the team has agreed to terms with defenseman Chris Wideman on a one-year, one-way contract. The deal has a value of $750,000.

Wideman, 31, skated in 59 games in the KHL in 2020-21 with the Nizhny Novgorod Torpedo, tallying nine goals and 32 assists for 41 points. The rearguard led all KHL defensemen in points in his first season in the league. Wideman also served 73 penalty minutes and posted a 0 differential.
The 5'10'' and 183 lbs blueliner has played 181 career NHL games with the Ottawa Senators, Edmonton Oilers and Florida Panthers. Wideman collected 45 points (16 goals, 29 assists) since making his NHL debut in 2015-16. The St. Louis, MO native also notched one goal and added three assists in 15 career playoff contests.
