MONTREAL - Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin announced on Thursday that the organization has agreed to terms on a one-year, two-way contract (2021-22) with forward Alex Belzile.

The contract will see Belzile earn $750,000 in the NHL and $250,000 in the AHL, with a guaranteed salary of $300,000.
Belzile, 29, suited up for two games with Montreal last season, amassing one assist. He was among the group of "Black Aces" recalled from the American Hockey League ahead of the Stanley Cup playoffs. Prior to that experience with the Canadiens, Belzile played a key role with the Laval Rocket, collecting 14 points (4 goals, 10 assists) in addition to serving 39 penalty minutes in 17 games. He also posted a plus-6 differential.
Since making his AHL debut in 2012-13, the right-handed forward has recorded 146 points (58 goals, 88 assists) in 256 games with the Hamilton Bulldogs, San Antonio Rampage and the Rocket. The 6'0'', 205 lbs forward has amassed 82 points (30 goals, 52 assists) in 111 career games with Laval. He earned his first career AHL All-Star nod in 2018.
Belzile also played in the ECHL for five seasons, suiting up for the Gwinnett Gladiators, Alaska Aces, Idaho Steelheads, Fort Wayne Komets, and the Colorado Eagles. Belzile amassed 169 points (62 goals, 107 assists) in 168 regular season games in the ECHL. He added 24 goals and 32 assists in 62 playoff games. He hoisted the Kelly Cup with the Aces (2014) and the Eagles (2017).
The Saint-Eloi, QC native played his entire Junior career with the Rimouski Océanic, from 2009-10 to 2011-12, registering 59 goals and adding 134 assists in 158 career games. He helped his team reach the QMJHL Finals in his final season.
