BROSSARD - Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes announced on Monday that the team has agreed to terms on a one-year, two-way contract with forward Mitchell Stephens.
The 26-year-old Peterborough, ON native played 68 games with the Laval Rocket in 2022-23, registering 20 goals and 21 assists in addition to serving 49 penalty minutes. A right-handed centerman, four of his goals came on the power play and one was scored shorthanded.
Stephens has played 72 career NHL games with the Tampa Bay Lightning and Detroit Red Wings, registering 13 points (3 goals, 10 assists). The 5-foot-11, 197 lb forward has also skated in 203 total AHL games with the Syracuse Crunch and the Rocket, tallying 57 goals and 68 assists to date.
Stephens was selected in the second round (33rd overall) by the Lightning in 2015.
