MONTREAL - Newcomer Mathieu Perreault spoke with reporters via Zoom on Friday.

The 33-year-old forward just signed a one-year contract with the Canadiens.
Here are a few highlights from his press conference:
Perreault on his success at the Bell Centre:
I've always had success playing at the Bell Centre. Now, I have the opportunity to play at least 41 regular-season games there. I've always loved playing in that building.

Perreault on his possible role in Montreal:
I've spoken with Dominique Ducharme. He's a great coach. I loved the way he coached the Canadiens last season. He uses his players well. It's a good opportunity for me. I think I have the chance to battle for a Stanley Cup in Montreal. The Canadiens have a good core of players and they played a great style last year. There's a good mix of things.
Perreault on signing with the Habs:
It's a new experience for me. I didn't really know the market. I had success in Winnipeg and signed a lucrative deal. I've reached a point in my career where money is less important. I wanted to find a place where I could feel comfortable and happy. Montreal checked all the boxes. It was the best decision for me and my family. We were really happy when Montreal showed interest. The Canadiens were at the top of my list. We're happy that we came to an agreement.

Perreault on possibly playing center:
That's something that was a part of our conversation. I mentioned to Dom that I played center in the NHL for seven or eight years before Paul Maurice used me on the wing. I have experience at the center position and I'm comfortable going back there. I told him that if he needed me at center, I was ready. I also played right and left-wing. I'm comfortable playing any of those positions. I talked about all of that with Dominique.
Perreault on sporting Canadiens colors:
When I became a free agent and Montreal showed interest, there was a small flame that lit up inside of me. I wouldn't experience that with any other team. I've realized a childhood dream. I couldn't pass up the opportunity to jump on the ice at the Bell Centre wearing a Canadiens jersey. I was so happy when everything came together. It was an incredible feeling. I can't wait to get started.
