MONTREAL - Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin announced today that Pierre Gervais will take part in his last season as head equipment manager with the Canadiens in 2021-22, after more than 35 years of collaboration with the organization. Patrick Langlois will take over as equipment manager starting in the 2022-23 season.

Pierre Gervais joined the team as assistant equipment manager in 1987-88, following five seasons with the AHL's Sherbrooke Canadiens (1982 to 1987), and five more in the QMJHL with Trois-Rivières and Sherbrooke.
"First of all, I would like to thank Pierre for all of his hard work, professionalism and dedication to the Montreal Canadiens during the last 35 years", said general manager Marc Bergevin. "Pierre established himself as one of the top equipment managers in the hockey industry over the course of his career and we were very fortunate to have him with us all those years. The contacts and relationships he developed all around the world speak for themselves about his work ethic."
Gervais, who takes care with dedication and professionalism of everything related to player equipment, was a member of the Stanley Cup Champions Canadiens in 1993, and the Calder Cup Champions Sherbrooke Canadiens in 1985. He also participated at the Memorial Cup Tournament in 1978, 1979 and 1981. A member of the Society of Professional Equipment Managers' Board, he was honoured by the Association of Sports Equipment Managers for his 2,000-NHL-game milestone in 2007-08 (which is now over 3,000 NHL contests since the game on March 8, 2021, at Vancouver).
In February 2010, Pierre Gervais served as one of the equipment managers with gold-medal winning Team Canada at the Olympic Games in Sochi (2014), his fourth Olympics, after Salt Lake City in 2002 (gold), Turin in 2006 and Vancouver in 2010. Gervais was also a member of Team Canada's gold-medal squad at the 2004 World Cup of Hockey and worked with the team at the 2005 World Hockey Championship in Austria (silver medal).
The organization is currently working to define the parameters of a new role that would allow Pierre Gervais to remain implicated with the team. More details will be shared once this role is officially created.
