The Blues opened the scoring with 34 seconds remaining in the first period courtesy of Brandon Saad, who capped a 2-on-1 with his 12th goal of the season. St. Louis led 1-0 after 20 minutes. Joel Armia netted the equalizer with an outstanding individual effort just 1:43 into the middle frame. Armia's second goal of the campaign was assisted by Jake Evans and Evgenii Dadonov.

Alexey Toropchenko responded for the Blues just five minutes later to put the visitors back in front 2-1 with this second goal of the year. That didn't get the Canadiens down, though, as Montreal later capitalized on a power play to level the scoreline. Kirby Dach buried a perfect feed from Nick Suzuki for his sixth goal of the season with 3:45 left in the stanza. Christian Dvorak also assisted on the tally.

It was 2-2 after 40 minutes. Cole Caufield put Montreal in front 3-2 just 36 seconds into the third period with his 23rd goal of the season. Suzuki collected the lone helper on the play.

Nikita Alexandrov responded for St. Louis just under two minutes later with his first goal of the season to tie things up. Pavel Buchnevich gave the Blues a 4-3 lead with a power-play snipe at the 4:42 mark of the period, before Armia lit the lamp again at 7:20. Evans and Dadonov collected the helpers on the snipe.
