Defenseman Victor Mete returned to the lineup for the first time since February 21 in Ottawa.
He replaced veteran Ben Chiarot, who flew back to Montreal after fracturing his right hand on Wednesday night in Vancouver.
Mete, who made his sixth appearance of the season, was a healthy scratch for the previous eight contests.

For his part, goaltender Jake Allen made his 10th start of the year for the Canadiens.
He's now just one appearance shy of reaching the 300 games played mark for his career.

Speaking of milestones, left-winger Tomas Tatar appeared in his 600th career NHL game on Thursday night.
The 30-year-old Slovak has played 407 regular season games with Detroit, 20 with Vegas and 173 with Montreal.

It was a relatively uneventful first period with no goals to report.
Both clubs recorded six shots during the opening frame.
Allen made this nice stop on Flames centerman Sean Monahan to keep things scoreless.

Left-winger Josh Leivo opened the scoring for Calgary just 1:52 into the second period, capping a tic-tac-toe play with an easy tap-in goal on Allen.
The Canadiens were caught on a line change, which led to an odd-man rush that ultimately resulted in the marker.

Leivo struck again with 6:05 remaining in the stanza to put the Flames up 2-0.
The 27-year-old Innisfil, ON native capitalized on a failed pass attempt by captain Shea Weber up the middle in the Habs' zone.
Leivo collected the loose puck and quickly beat Allen upstairs with a wrist shot.

That's the way things stood after 40 minutes.
Calgary outshot Montreal by a 14-5 margin in the period, and were leading 20-11 in that department at the break.
The Canadiens cut into the Flames' lead with 9:45 remaining in regulation.
Right-winger Corey Perry tipped a shot from Weber past goaltender Jacob Markstrom to register his fifth goal of the season.
Perry now has goals in two straight games and three in his last five.

That's as close as the Canadiens would get.
Allen finished the game with 27 saves in a losing effort.
The Canadiens will be back in action on Saturday night for a rematch against the Flames at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET.
