BOSTON -- The Canadiens were dealt a 5-2 loss by the Bruins at TD Garden.

With goaltender Jake Allen listed as day-to-day following a scary collision with Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin, Sam Montembeault made his third start of the season.
It was his first start since October 31 against the Ducks in Anaheim.

Winger Joel Armia opened the scoring for Montreal at the 8:09 mark of the first period, lighting the lamp with a top-shelf snipe on Bruins starter Jeremy Swayman.
It was his first goal of the season.

Countryman Artturi Lehkonen collected the lone assist on the play.
The Canadiens led 1-0 after 20 minutes.
Montembeault was tested in the middle frame, but performed brilliantly on this 2-on-0 break to deny Brad Marchand and keep the Bruins off the scoresheet.

Unfortunately, defenseman Charlie McAvoy did manage to tie things up a few minutes later.
But, the Canadiens retook the lead with 3:35 left before the break.
Winger Michael Pezzetta tipped a shot past Swayman for his first NHL goal.

Adam Brooks, who was playing in place of an injured Mike Hoffman, and Josh Anderson assisted on Pezzetta's tally.
It was Brooks' first point in a Canadiens uniform.
The Habs took their 2-1 advantage into the final stanza.
Bruce Cassidy's contingent put their scoring prowess on display down the stretch, scoring three unanswered goals in a span of 6:51 before the midway point of the period.
After McAvoy scored the game-tying goal on the power play, Charlie Coyle added two goals of his own to put Boston ahead for good.
Taylor Hall capped the scoring for the home side with an empty-netter.
Montembeault finished the game with 36 saves.
The Canadiens close out their three-game road trip on Tuesday night against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden.
Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET.
