CALGARY - The Canadiens snapped their two-game losing streak with a huge 2-1 win over the Flames on Monday night at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

Right-winger Cole Caufield made his highly anticipated NHL debut for Montreal.
The 20-year-old Stevens Points, WI native, who was selected 15th overall in 2019, took the customary solo lap to kick off the pregame warmup.

Caufield was featured on a line alongside veterans Phillip Danault and Tomas Tatar.
Paul Byron (lower-body injury), Jonathan Drouin (non-COVID related illness) and Alexander Romanov (assigned to the taxi squad) weren't in the lineup.

The Canadiens capitalized on a two-man advantage to open the scoring at the 9:59 mark of the first period.
Captain Shea Weber blasted a one-timer past Flames goaltender Jacob Markstrom to put the visitors up 1-0.

It was Weber's sixth goal goal of the season and his first since March 10, snapping a 21-game goal drought.
Tatar and Jeff Petry picked up helpers on the play.
Tatar's 20th assist of the year made him the third player on the roster to reach the 30-point plateau, joining Petry and right-winger Tyler Toffoli.
The Flames responded just 2:18 later on a power play opportunity of their own courtesy of centreman Elias Lindholm.
Left unmarked, Lindholm was the recipient of a perfect feed from Johnny Gaudreau and he proceeded to beat a helpless Jake Allen upstairs.

It was Lindholm's 15th goal of the campaign.
Andrew Mangiapane collected the secondary assist on the Swedish sniper's equalizer.
That's the way things stood after 20 minutes. The Flames were ahead 6-5 in shots.
There were no goals to report in the second period until Toffoli found the back of the net with 1:55 remaining before the break, scoring his team-leading 25th goal of the season.
The 29-year-old Scarborough, ON native took a feed from Joel Armia and wired it past Markstrom to give the Canadiens a 2-1 lead.

That extended Toffoli's goal streak to four straight games.
Centreman Nick Suzuki was also credited with an assist on the play.
That's the way things stood after 40 minutes. Calgary was still outshooting Montreal by a 14-13 margin.
There were no goals to report in the third period.
Allen finished the game with 21 saves to pick up his ninth win of the season.

The Canadiens will be back in action on Wednesday night when they play host to the Toronto Maple Leafs at the Bell Centre. Puck drop is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. ET.
