MTL@BUF: Game recap

BUFFALO - The Canadiens capture a thrilling 4-3 shootout win over the Sabres at KeyBank Center on Monday.

The team arrived in style at KeyBank Center.

Players like defenseman David Savard were focused on getting ready for the matchup.

Jake Allen got the start in net for Montreal.
Prior to puck drop, the team announced that goaltender Cayden Primeau was recalled from the Laval Rocket. He will join the Habs in Philadelphia.
Martin St-Louis' squad struck first with only 1:22 played in the game. Jordan Harris notched his fourth goal of the season. The rookie rearguard buried his own rebound after his initial shot was stopped by netminder Eric Comrie, accepting a cross-ice pass from Jonathan Drouin. Mike Matheson earned a secondary assist on the goal.

Soon after, the Sabres scored the equalizer off the stick of Lukas Rousek, who made his NHL debut tonight.
The game was tied at one apiece after 20 minutes. The Sabres led 13 to six in shots on goal.
Back for the second period, the Habs re-established their lead early in the middle frame. Alex Belzile sent a wrist shot past Comrie to make it 2-1. Savard earned the lone assist.

Unfortunately, much like in the opening stanza, the Sabres were quick to respond.
With Mike Hoffman serving a penalty for cross-checking, Buffalo's J.J. Paterka tied the game. Around three minutes later, the home side grabbed the lead thanks to Riley Stillman's first goal of the season.
After 40 minutes of play, Don Granato's squad led 3-2. The Canadiens were up 24-22 in shots on goal.
Near the halfway mark of the third period, Brendan Gallagher notched his 200th career NHL goal with a wrist shot. Jake Evans and Jesse Ylonen tallied helpers on the goal.

Tied 3-3, the game required overtime.
Despite several great scoring chances, the Canadiens couldn't solve Comrie after 5 minutes of OT.
In shootouts, Ylönen scored for the Habs and Michael Pezzetta netted the game-winning goal for the Habs.

The team is back in action tomorrow night in Philadelphia to face the Flyers at 7:00 p.m.
