The Sabres got on the board first, with veteran Kyle Okposo taking advantage of some traffic in front of Sam Montembeault's net to open the scoring on the power play at the 6:40 mark of the first period.
Still in the opening frame, Don Granato's troops doubled their lead when forward Zemgus Girgensons deflected Colin Miller's shot from the point to make it a 2-0 game.

The Canadiens cut Buffalo's lead in half when Chris Wideman snuck in to tap it in past Craig Anderson for his first as a Hab.
