MONTREAL -- The Kings edged the Canadiens 3-2 in overtime on Tuesday night.

It was scoreless until the latter stages of the first period when defenseman Ben Chiarot finally managed to solve Kings goaltender Calvin Petersen.
With 4:57 left before the break, Chiarot buried a loose puck for his third goal of the season.

Winger Artturi Lehkonen collected the lone assist on the sequence.
The Canadiens held a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes.
During the first TV timeout of the frame, the Canadiens paid tribute to forward Phillip Danault, who made his return to the Bell Centre after signing with the Kings on July 28.
The fans gave the Victoriaville native a wonderful ovation, recognizing his five-plus seasons of service with the Canadiens.

Winger Brendan Lemieux scored the equalizer for Los Angeles just under five minutes into the second period, beating goaltender Jake Allen top shelf off the rush.
Allen kept things tied with this miraculous pad save on Danault.

The stop was so spectacular that it's worth viewing from another angle.
Allen's effort to deny the former Habs center was simply outstanding.

It was 1-1 after 40 minutes.
Six seconds elapsed in the third period when winger Alex Iafallo beat Allen to put the Kings in front.
Iafallo poked the puck past defenseman David Savard off the draw, sped down the wing and buried a wrist shot.
Center Jake Evans netted the equalizer for Montreal with 6:38 remaining in regulation, turning a Kings defender inside out before firing the puck past Petersen for his second goal of the year.

LAK@MTL: Evans toe drags then cuts outside to score

Lehkonen and defenseman Brett Kulak collected the assists.
Overtime was required to settle this one.
Unfortunately, Swedish sniper Adrian Kempe scored the game-winner at the 3:39 mark of the extra frame to secure the victory for the visitors.
Allen finished the game with 31 saves.
The Canadiens close out their homestand on Thursday night against the Calgary Flames.
