An outstanding performer everywhere he played, Ralph Backstrom first made a name for himself as captain of the Montreal Jr. Canadiens in 1957 and 1958, leading the team to the Memorial Cup in 1958.
Voted the NHL's rookie of the year in 1959, Backstrom won the Stanley Cup in each of his first two seasons with the Montreal Canadiens. During his 15-year career with the Red, White and Blue, he etched his name on the Holy Grail six times. Following a successful career in the NHL, he joined the WHA and was selected to represent North America in an 8-game series vs the USSR in 1974.
