MONTREAL -- Joshua Roy and Riley Kidney won gold at the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship on Saturday night.
SHOP: Canadiens Vintage Cardigan Canada posted a 3-2 victory over Finland in overtime, with Columbus Blue Jackets prospect Kent Johnson scoring the game-winner at the 3:20 mark of the extra frame.
Head coach Dave Cameron's contingent let a 2-0 lead slip away in the third period, but still managed to claim the tournament's top prize. Roy opened the scoring for Canada.
The 19-year-old winger finished the tournament with eight points (3 goals, 5 assists) in seven games. Kidney was in the lineup against the Finns, but he didn't see any ice time. This remarkable play in overtime by captain and tournament MVP, Mason McTavish, kept Cameron's troops alive and definitely deserves multiple looks.
For their part, Oliver Kapanen and Petteri Nurmi earned silver medals. Nurmi didn't dress versus Canada. Kapanen closed the tournament with two points (1 goal, 1 assist) in seven appearances.
