The Russians dropped their second game of the tournament on Thursday afternoon, falling 3-2 to the United States at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto.
Canadiens prospect Mikhail Sergachev was held off the scoresheet for a second straight game, but still earned Player of the Game honours for his country. He finished the contest with a minus-2 differential, while logging 17:20 of ice time.
The Russians will wrap up preliminary round play on Saturday against the Slovaks.
Canada 10 - Latvia 2
Canada remained perfect at the World Junior Hockey Championship with a full-on thumping of Latvia on Thursday night.
The Canadiens' first-round pick in 2015, Noah Juulsen, picked up an assist in the win and finished the contest with a plus-2 differential. He logged 17:32 of ice time.
The Canadians will be back in action against the Americans on Saturday afternoon in Toronto.
