Alex Galchenyuk draft

MONTREAL - With the NHL Draft Lottery complete and the selection order set, the Habs will be picking third in the opening round in Dallas.
Since the first Amateur Draft in 1963, the Canadiens have only ever made two third-overall selections:

ALEX GALCHENYUK - LW - 2012
Taken with the third overall pick in 2012 in Pittsburgh, Alex Galchenyuk came a goal shy of his third career 20-plus-goal season in 2017-18. The Milwaukee, WI native - who netted his 100th career marker this season - has suited up for 418 games with the Canadiens, tops amongst those drafted in 2012. Galchenyuk is tied for first place in his draft class in scoring with Filip Forsberg, with 255 points (108G, 147A). Along with Shayne Gostisbehere, Galchenyuk also leads his draft year with 78 power play points (17G, 61A), and sits fourth in game-winning goals with 17.

JIM PRITCHARD - D - 1968
The Habs took defenseman Jim Pritchard with the third overall pick in 1968, but he would never play with the Canadiens. He spent nine years plying his trade in the Central, Eastern, and North American Hockey Leagues, but never cracked an NHL roster.
While Galchenyuk may have been the Habs' only third overall pick to ever play for Montreal, he isn't the lone No. 3 selection to have donned a Canadiens uniform. His current teammate, Jonathan Drouin, was taken third by the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2013 in New Jersey. In his first season with the Canadiens, Drouin amassed 46 points (13G, 33A) in 77 games, and has career totals of 42 goals, 99 assists and 141 points in 241 games.
Other former third overall picks to skate in bleu-blanc-rouge include Robert Picard (D, 1977, WSH, three seasons in Montreal, 899 career games, 104 goals, 319 assists), Denis Savard (C, 1980, CHI, four seasons in Montreal, 1,196 GP, 473G, 865A), Scott Thornton (LW, 1989, TOR, four seasons in Montreal, 941 GP, 144G, 141A), and Radek Bonk (C, 1994, OTT, two seasons in Montreal, 969 GP, 194G, 303A).
