MONTREAL -- Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes announced on Thursday that the team has agreed to terms on a three-year, one-way contract extension with goaltender Cayden Primeau (2022-23 to 2024-25).

The deal, which carries an average annual value (AAV) of $890,000, will see him earn $770,000 in 2022-23, $800,000 in 2023-24, and $1,100,000 in 2024-25.
Primeau, 23, was 1-7-1 in 12 games with the Canadiens last season, posting a 4.62 goals-against average and a .868 save percentage.
The 6-foot-3, 203-pound netminder has a 3-10-2 record in 18 career NHL games.
Primeau also posted a 16-12-3 record in 33 games with the Laval Rocket in 2021-22.
The Farmington Hills, MI native won nine of his 14 playoff appearances to help the Rocket reach the AHL's Eastern Conference Final, compiling a 2.17 goals-against average and a .936 save percentage along the way.
Drafted in the seventh round (199th overall) by the Canadiens in 2017, Primeau is entering his fourth professional season, having made his Rocket debut in 2019-20.
