MONTREAL – Before hitting the road for the remainder of 2023, the Canadiens held an optional morning skate in preparation for their game against the New York Islanders.

Captain Nick Suzuki ran through some drills with director of hockey development Adam Nicholas ahead of the optional skate. 

Jake Evans joined his teammates for the on-ice session. The 27-year-old took therapy days on Thursday and Friday.

On Friday, it was confirmed that Samuel Montembeault will get the start against the Islanders.

During his pregame press conference on Saturday, head coach Martin St-Louis confirmed that no changes will be made to the lineup, meaning that Emil Heineman will have to wait his turn before making his NHL debut. The 22-year-old Swedish forward was recalled from the Laval Rocket on December 13 after the team placed Tanner Pearson on IR.
