Soucy

Vancouver, B.C. - Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that the club has agreed to terms with defenceman Carson Soucy on a three-year contract worth an average annual value of $3.25 million.

"Carson will provide stability and size to our back end," said Allvin. "He is a player who uses his big frame to his advantage, plays a sound defensive game and also has the tools to chip in offensively. His experience playing a man down will be a great asset for our penalty kill this coming season."

Soucy, 28, registered 16 points (3-13-16) and 68 penalty minutes in 78 regular season games with the Seattle Kraken last season. In addition to ranking third among Kraken defencemen in plus-minus (+18) and hits (143), he collected the third-most blocked shots (96) among all Seattle skaters while averaging 16:18 in time on ice.

The 6'5", 208-pound defenceman also appeared in all 14 playoff games for Seattle this past spring, contributing two points (1-1-2) and 12 penalty minutes. He also tied for the playoff team-lead in plus-minus and tallied the game-winning goal in Game 3 during the second-round against Dallas.

In 250 career regular season NHL games split between Seattle and the Minnesota Wild, Soucy has compiled 68 points (21-47-68) and 186 penalty minutes. Since his first full NHL season in 2019.20, he has recorded four consecutive positive plus-minus ratings, ranking tied for 14th among all defencemen with a +63 rating. Soucy has also appeared in four separate NHL postseasons with Seattle and Minnesota, posting two points (1-1-2) and 14 penalty minutes in 26 games.

A native of Viking, Alberta, Soucy was originally selected by Minnesota in the fifth round, 137th overall in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.
