Canucks Agree to Terms with Nils Höglander on Two-Year Contract

Vancouver, B.C. -Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that the club has agreed to terms with forward Nils Höglander on a two-year contract with a $1.1M AAV.

"Nils learned a lot this past season, especially playing meaningful playoff games in Abbotsford," said Allvin. "It's not easy to start the year in the NHL and then be sent down to the American League, but we were impressed with the way he took that challenge head on. He worked hard on his game and give credit to Jeremy Colliton, his staff, and our development team as well for helping Nils improve on things during the year. This experience should really help Nils compete for a spot on our team at training camp this fall."

Höglander, 22, split the 2022.23 season between Vancouver and Abbotsford (AHL), recording nine points (3-6-9) and six penalty minutes in 25 games at the NHL level prior to his assignment to Abbotsford. In 45 regular season AHL games, Höglander recorded 32 points (14-18-32) and 44 penalty minutes to rank fourth on the team in points per game (0.71) among players with at least 20 games played.

The 5'9", 185-pound winger also appeared in all six Calder Cup playoff games for the Canucks, where he finished tied for the team lead in overall scoring with six points (3-3-6) and power play scoring with two points (1-1-2). He also scored two of three game-winning goals for Abbotsford during their playoff run, including both games during their first-round best-of-three series against Bakersfield.

In 141 career NHL games over parts of three season, all with Vancouver, Höglander has 54 points (26-28-54), highlighted by an impressive rookie campaign which saw him tally 13 goals and 14 assists in the shortened 56-game 2020.21 season.

A native of Bockträsk, Sweden, Höglander previously played three seasons in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) with Rögle BK, and has also represented his country on numerous occasions, earning gold at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge (2016) and bronze at each of the IIHF U18 World Championship (2018) and IIHF World Junior Championships (2020).

Höglander was originally selected by Vancouver in the second round, 40th overall in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft.
