With two assists on Jan. 27/21 vs Ottawa, Quinn Hughes ranks 3rd among NHL defencemen for assists (56) through 82 career games (full season equivalent) since the 1980.81 season. Hughes' 8 assists so far this season rank him in 4th place in franchise history for most assists through the team's first nine games of the season, behind Paul Reinhart (11 in 1989.90, 9 in 1988.89) and Jiri Bubla (10 in 1983.84). Earlier this season, Hughes tied Chris Chelios for the fifth-fewest games needed (74) by an NHL defenceman before reaching 50 career assists.

CENTRE OF ATTENTION

With his second goal of the season on Jan. 27/21 vs Ottawa, Elias Pettersson moved into 5th place among Swedish-born centres in NHL history for most career goals (57) before the age of 23. At 22 years, 76 days, Pettersson trails only Mats Sundin (125), Nicklas Backstrom (76), Patrik Sundstrom (68), and Mika Zibanejad (64) on that list.
