McDonough, 23, recently completed his fourth season with the Northeastern University Huskies of the NCAA and his first serving as team captain. In 34 games this season, McDonough led the Huskies in goals (20) and points (38) while ranking third on the team in assists (18).
Last season, McDonough was named to the All-Hockey East First Team and AHCA East First All-American Team following a 25-goal and 39-point (25-14-39) campaign in 38 games played. He also earned the Three-Stars Award for most points three stars points earned in the Hockey East division.
The 6'2", 200-pound forward produced at a point-per-game pace during his career with Northeastern, recording 124 points (66-58-124) in 124 games played to rank inside NU's top 30 in all-time scoring. His 1.12 points-per-game pace this season is the highest of his college career.
Earlier this year, McDonough helped lead Northeastern to a Beanpot championship, netting the only shootout goal in a 3-2 win over Harvard University on February 13. The Milton, Massachusetts native previously won the Beanpot tournament in 2020 when he posted a game-high four points (1-3-4) in a 5-4 double-overtime victory over Boston University.
McDonough was originally selected by the Vancouver Canucks in the seventh round, 195th overall in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft.
