"Far too often, individuals with intellectual disabilities are still marginalized and forgotten, leading to significant health challenges and social isolation - and COVID-19 has exacerbated the issues. In response, Special Olympics BC has launched new virtual programming to support our athletes' health and well-being, and we are working on a safe, phased return to our life-changing in-person sport programs. The funding from the Canucks for Kids Fund 50/50 will provide critical support for these efforts that matter so much to the Special Olympics BC family, and to our mission of building inclusive communities throughout our province."
The Canucks For Kids Fund 50/50 Draw in support of Special Olympics BC coincides with this year's Sports Celebrities Festival, presented by Wheaton Precious Metals, which is also currently running until November 10. Traditionally an in-person gala, the event has been reimagined in a new virtual format that expands opportunities to change lives through the power and joy of sport. Those looking to support can bid on an array of online auction items, purchase tickets in the Palladio Jewellers Luxury Watch Raffle, donate to Fund a Need, or tune into the SCF live virtual show on November 10 at 7 p.m. PT, featuring a hot stove with Vancouver Canucks players Brandon Sutter, Nate Schmidt and Jay Beagle, comedy by Brent Butt, a Q and A with Special Olympics BC athlete Susan Wang, and emceeing by Sportsnet 650's Perry Solkowski. The Canucks for Kids fund held online 50/50 raffles supporting Covid-19 Relief efforts. To date, the previous raffles generated $4,212,913 ($8,425,825 total jackpot) for local charities, including organizations supporting community nourishment, mental health, and children's support programming during COVID-19 relief efforts.
