Vancouver, BC -Vancouver Canucks President, Hockey Operations, Trevor Linden announced today that the Canucks have signed General Manager, Jim Benning to a multi-year contract extension. Benning is the 11th General Manager in franchise history and has served four years in the role since May, 2014.

"I'm grateful to the Aquilini family and to Trevor Linden for the commitment they've made to me and for their confidence in our long-term vision for the Vancouver Canucks," said Benning. "I'm excited about the direction of our team and the depth and talent we continue to build. I believe we are on the right track and I am pleased to continue the work we started four years ago when we set out to build a championship team."

Originally from Edmonton, AB, Benning joined the Canucks from Boston where he served as Assistant General Manager for seven seasons culminating in a Stanley Cup Championship in 2011. He also held a 12-year tenure with the Buffalo Sabres as Director of Amateur Scouting. Benning played nine seasons in the NHL as a defenceman with the Toronto Maple Leafs and Vancouver Canucks.
