Pettersson: 10 goals in 10 games

Another goal, another whack of stats.

Elias Pettersson scored his 10th career NHL goal in his 10th career NHL game Tuesday night in Detroit as part of a 3-2 Vancouver shootout loss; the Canucks have not lost in regulation over their last four games.
Pettersson's goal, scored at the 13:39 mark of the 1st period to put the Canucks up 1-0, was an absolute rocket of a shot.

The goal quickly drew comparisons to a similar one scored by The Great One, Wayne Gretzky, on Mike Vernon back in the day.

It's a little early to crown Pettersson the Swedish Gretzky, let's give him at least another game or two. Although Twitter user Leonard Washington does raise a good point:

As the 19-year-old rookie continues to impress, the stats continue to pile up.
-Pettersson became just the 17th player in NHL history to score 10+ goals through his first 10 career games, and just the fifth to do so outside of the NHL's inaugural season.
-Pettersson is the only teenager in the last 30 seasons (1988-89 to present) to open their career with at least 10 goals through their first 10 career games played.
-Pettersson is the first player to record 16+ points through his first 10 career NHL games since 1992-93, when Dimitri Kvartalnov and Nikolai Borschevsky accomplished the feat.
-Pettersson tied Esa Tikkanen and Mike Walton for the most points (16) by a player in their first 10 games as a member of the Canucks.
-Pettersson has collected at least a point in each road game he's played this season with seven in five games.
Impressive stats aside, Pettersson is happy he's contributing, but it means nothing to him without a Canucks win and two points.

Vancouver continues its six-game road trip Thursday night in Boston.
