Las Vegas, Nevada - The National Hockey League announced today that Canucks forwards Daniel and Henrik Sedin were jointly awarded the 2017.18 King Clancy Memorial Trophy, given annually to the NHL player(s) who best exemplifies leadership qualities both on and off the ice and has made a significant humanitarian contribution in his community. Henrik Sedin becomes the first player in history to receive the award twice, while Daniel Sedin becomes the third player in franchise history to win, following Henrik in 2015.16 and Trevor Linden in the 1996.97 season.

The Sedins finished their legendary playing careers this past April after 17 NHL seasons, all with the Canucks. Henrik Sedin leads the franchise in games played (1,330), assists (830), points (1,070) and plus minus (+165) while Daniel leads in goals (393), power play goals (138), game-winning goals (86) and shots on goal (3,474). Although their on-ice contributions will live on in Canucks lore, their impact off the ice will be remembered with equal reverence in Vancouver. The Sedins have spent significant time, energy and funds to support children and families throughout their adopted province of British Columbia.
Through the charitable arm of the Vancouver Canucks, the Canucks for Kids Fund, Daniel and Henrik have supported BC Children's Hospital not only by making frequent visits to spend quality time with the children dealing with serious illnesses, but also by purchasing and donating thousands of dollars worth of Canucks game tickets to those same kids and families. In addition, they have been the face of the Jeans Day provincial fundraiser for several years, helping BC Children's Hospital Foundation raise more than $1 million alone in 2018. The Sedins along with their spouses also made a joint $1.5 million donation to help build a brand new BC Children's Hospital in 2010.
The Sedins are also proud supporters of Canuck Place Children's Hospice which provides pediatric palliative care to BC's sickest children and their families. They help create lasting memories for the Canuck Place families with numerous visits and ticket donations year after year. They are also committed to the Canucks Autism Network (CAN) which provides awareness, support, and programming for individuals and families living with autism. They regularly participate in the annual CAN Sports Day, helping create lasting memories for the participants and families. Daniel and Henrik have also been supporting some of the province's most vulnerable families at the Canucks Family Education Centre over the last several years.
In addition to their contributions with the Vancouver Canucks, the Ornskoldsvik, Sweden natives established a charitable foundation to reach even more people in the community. The Sedin Family Foundation works with schools, community groups and social service agencies to identify needs and find creative and unique ways to make a difference for children and families. In March 2018, the Foundation sponsored 15 First Nations Youth from the remote town of Port Hardy to attend the Gathering Our Voices Indigenous Youth Leadership Training conference in Richmond, BC. The Sedins additional community involvement include donating to numerous community projects such as cultural centre and playground builds, as well as kids sports programs, across British Columbia.
