CANUCKS ANNOUNCE ASSISTANT GM
Vancouver Canucks President, Hockey Operations and Interim GM Jim Rutherford announced Monday that Émilie Castonguay has been named Assistant General Manager, becoming the first female Assistant General Manager in team history and second in NHL history (Angela Gorgone, ANA, 1996.97). Castonguay joins the Canucks from Momentum Hockey where she became the first female NHLPA Certified Agent in Canada in 2016, representing numerous players at all levels including the NHL, AHL, Junior and internationally.
A GRAND ACCOMPLISHMENT
Head Coach Bruce Boudreau coached his 1,000th NHL game (577-306-117) on Jan. 23 vs STL, becoming the 29th coach in NHL history and sixth active Head Coach (Trotz, Ruff, D. Sutter, Laviolette, Tippett) to reach the milestone. Only one head coach in NHL history (Scotty Bowman, 598 wins) had more wins than Boudreau's 577 at the 1,000 game mark.
MYSEY'S MILESTONE
Tyler Myers' next game will be his 800th career NHL game, making him only the second Texas-born player in League history to reach that mark. Myers ranks second all-time among Texas-born skaters for games played (799), goals (86), and points (317), behind only Brian Leetch.
PASSER PETEY
Assisting on Tanner Pearson's opening goal on Jan. 23 vs STL, Elias Pettersson recorded his 100th career assist in his 206th game, marking the sixth- fewest games needed to reach the milestone by a Canucks skater who debuted with the team, trailing teammate Quinn Hughes (151), Pavel Bure (187), Thomas Gradin (187), Stan Smyl (191), and Patrik Sundstrom (195).
GOOD COMPANY
Making 31 saves during a 4-2 win on Jan. 16 at WSH, Thatcher Demko (103 GP) required the fourth-fewest games to reach 50 wins with the Canucks, behind only Roberto Luongo (81 GP), Cory Schneider (88 GP) and Dan Cloutier (102 GP).
HERO HUGHES
On Jan. 21 vs FLA, Quinn Hughes collected his 30th assist for the third consecutive season, in just his 39th game. This is the second fewest games required by a defenceman to reach 30 assists in a season in Canucks franchise history, behind only Paul Reinhart (33) in 1989.90.
Previously, on Jan. 16 at WSH, Hughes collected two assists to record his 30th point of the season (2-28-30, 37 GP). Only two defencemen in Canucks history required fewer games in a season than Quinn Hughes (37) to reach the 30-point mark: Paul Reinhart (28 GP in 1989.90 &30 in 1988.89) and Jeff Brown (31 GP in 1994.95).
