Capitals Announce 2023-24 ALL CAPS ALL HER Programming

ARLINGTON, VA - The Washington Capitals announced today programming for the ALL CAPS ALL HER platform that will take place during the Capitals 2023-24 season.

The Capitals launched ALL CAPS ALL HER in December 2021 as an initiative that provides access to hockey and elevates the game for women and girls in the Washington, D.C., area. During the 2022-23 season, ALL CAPS ALL HER introduced more than 500 women and girls to hockey through related programming. In addition, ALL CAPS ALL HER programming accounted for 13% of overall USA Hockey participation growth for women girls last season.

ALL CAPS ALL HER recognizes and supports female players, coaches, referees, parents, advocates, students and leaders in the community. Events, programs and content throughout the year provide various levels of entry into hockey for women and girls of all ages, offer leadership, business development and networking opportunities and highlight influential women and families in the community.

This season's events and initiatives include girls, high school and adult programming:

Girls Programming

DMV Girls Try Hockey for Free Day: In partnership with the Potomac Valley Amateur Hockey Association (PVAHA) and various local DMV youth hockey organizations, the Washington Capitals will support the inaugural DMV Girls Try Hockey for Free Day on Saturday Sept. 23. The event will be hosted at 14 rinks across Maryland and Virginia and is open to girls ages 4-9.

Try Hockey for Free is a USA Hockey program that provides local youth the chance to try hockey during a one-to-two-hour ice session at no cost. All required equipment is loaned to participants through the local youth hockey organization. Try Hockey for Free days also provide local youth hockey associations with a platform and opportunity to acquire new players locally and engage interested families into youth hockey programs across the region.

Future Caps Learn to Play Presented by World Wide Technology: Various rinks across Virginia and Maryland host all-girls sessions of the Future Caps Learn to Play program, presented by World Wide Technology.

Future Caps is a first-time introductory hockey program for players ages 5-9. Learn to Play changes the way youth hockey is offered by providing first-time participants with free head-to-toe equipment, eight classes of ages appropriate on-ice instruction, and visits from Capitals alumni and female hockey ambassadors.

Girls Learn to Play: An ALL CAPS ALL HER Learn to Play program for girls ages 7-14 returns for its third year. The program runs in three eight-week sessions (Fall, Winter, Spring) and runs weekly on Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. - 10:30 p.m.. Each participant receives a Capitals swag bag, exclusive discounts on 2023-24 Capitals single-game tickets, and visits from special guests.

The Girls Learn to Play begins its fall session on Oct. 21 with Learn to Play 1: Introduction to Ice Hockey! And is followed by the winter session beginning on Jan. 20 with Learn to Play 2: Continue Your Hockey Journey!. It concludes in April 2024 with the Spring session, Game Concepts: Time to Play!

Girls Try Hockey for Free Clinic: In conjunction with a recently announced partnership with the USA Ball Hockey's Women's National Team (USWNT), a Girls Try Hockey for Free clinic for ages 5-17 will take place from 11 a.m.-noon on Sunday, Oct. 8, at the Capitals Outdoor Ball/Inline Rink at Ridge Road Recreational Park in Germantown, Md.

The clinic will be led by members of the Capitals youth hockey development staff, along with USWNT coaches and players.

Sticks and Sneakers: Also in conjunction with the USWNT partnership, the Capitals are launching a new ALL CAPS ALL HER Sticks and Sneakers Learn to Play program. Sticks and Sneakers, designed to provide further development following participation in the Capitals free clinics, is offered to first-time players between the ages of 5-9 and 10-14. For $49, participants receive free equipment, three weeks of age-appropriate introductory instruction on fundamental hockey skills including stickhandling, passing and shooting, and certified coaching in a fun, accessible and safe environment.

The ALL CAPS ALL HER Sticks and Sneakers programing will take place from 10:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14, Saturday, Oct. 21, and Saturday, Nov. 4 at the Capitals Outdoor Ball/Inline Rink at Ridge Road Recreational Park in Germantown, Md.

HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAMMING

High School Girls Training Camp: For a second year, the Capitals will host a High School Training Camp Clinic Series in partnership with MedStar Capitals Iceplex in Arlington, Va., and Rockville Ice Arena in Rockville, Md.

Open to girls in seventh through twelfth grades who play for their high school teams, this clinic series aims to provide a fun and educational environment for players to get back on the ice and sharpen their skills before the school hockey season begins.

All clinics will be coached by Caps Youth Hockey Development staff members, current and former high school coaches, and various skilled coaches from throughout the community.

Adult Learn to Skate: The Capitals offer a 9-week Learn to Skate series in partnership with MedStar Capitals Iceplex. Each participant receives a Capitals swag bag, exclusive discounts on 2023-24 Capitals single-game tickets, and visits from special guests (pending availability).

Capitals Women's Hockey League: The Capitals are proud to support the Capitals women's Hockey League (CWHL) at MedStar Capitals Iceplex. The CWHL currently fields six teams and is committed to providing a fun, safe, and competitive place for women to play hockey at the adult level.
