The Washington Capitals selected defenseman Ryan Chesley (37th overall), left wing Alexander Suzdalev (70th overall), left wing Ludwig Persson (85th overall), center Jake Karabela (149th overall), center Ryan Hofer (181st overall) and defenseman David Gucciardi (213th overall) on the second day of the 2022 NHL Draft. On Thursday, the Capitals selected left wing Ivan Miroshnichenko with the 20th overall pick.

Chesley, 18, was ranked fifth among North American defensemen and 18th among all North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting. The 6'0", 201-pound defenseman registered 29 points (12g, 17a) in 59 games with the USA Hockey National Team Development Program Under-18 team in 2021-22. Chesley led the team's defensemen in goals and ranked third in points among defensemen. Chesley also appeared in 26 games with the USNTDP Juniors, where he recorded 15 points (5g, 10a). The St. Paul, Minnesota native served as an alternate captain for the U.S. at the 2022 IIHF World U18 Championships, helping the Americans earn the silver medal. Chesley finished the tournament with five points (2g, 3a) in six games and a tournament-high +13 plus/minus rating.
Suzdalev, 18, was ranked sixth among European left wings and 26th among all European skaters by NHL Central Scouting. The 6'2", 177-pound left wing led HV71's junior team (Sweden-Jr.) in scoring with 51 points (15g, 36a) in 45 games. Suzdalev also appeared in four games with HV71's U18 team, where he recorded eight points (3g, 5a), and in five games with HV71 of HockeyAllsvenskan (Sweden-2). Suzdalev won a gold medal with Team Sweden at the 2022 IIHF World U18 Championships, skating in six games.
Persson, 19, was ranked 11th among European left wings and 46th among all European skaters by NHL Central Scouting. The 6'0", 178-pound left wing recorded 61 points (25g, 36a) in 41 games with Frölunda's junior team (Sweden-Jr.) in 2021-22, which led the team. Persson also appeared in 10 games with Frolunda in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL). The Gothenburg, Sweden native recorded one goal in three games for Sweden's U-20 team this season and five points (4g, 1a) in three games for the U-19 team.
Karabela, 18, was ranked 25th among North American centers and ranked 62nd among all North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting. The 5'10, 172-pound center recorded 45 points (12g, 33a) in 68 games with the Guelph Storm of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), ranking third on the team in assists, fourth in points and tied for third in plus/minus (+14). The Guelph, Ontario native added four points (2g, 2a) in five playoff games.
Hofer, 20, recorded 58 points (25g, 33a) in 67 games with the Everett Silvertips of the Western Hockey League (WHL) in 2021-22. The 6'3", 181-pound center ranked sixth on Everett in points and second in penalty minutes (84) during the regular season and ranked tied for first on the team in playoff scoring with 10 points (6g, 4a) in six games. In 89 career WHL games, Hofer has recorded 67 points (31g, 36a).
Gucciardi, 19, was ranked 21st among North American defensemen and 57th among all North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting. The 6'1", 185-pound defenseman recorded 11 points (5g, 6a) in 36 games during his freshman season at Michigan State. The Toronto, Ontario native led Spartan freshmen in goals and ranked fifth on the team in blocked shots (44). Prior to Michigan State, Gucciardi played two seasons in the United States Hockey League (USHL), recording 33 points (10g, 23a) in 68 games.
